| Plane type & model | Patrol seaplane (HE115B-1) | Designed to substitute the He-59 , the He-115 flew the first time as a prototype in 1936. One of the best qualities of this plane was his high speed. So in 1938 an exemplar without the defensive weapons took 8 speed awards with the ordinary payload. It began to be one of the most used seaplane by the Luftwaffe. It was concepted as a torpedo-bomber, but with the first series plane it was clear that its speed and mainly its manouverability were insufficient for such a role. Even with many improvements , as the long glass cockpit, the plane was relegated to secondary roles (coast patrol, mine deployement). The plane remained in production until the end of 1944. |
