Monoplane fighter (He-100D-1) |
The prototype Heinkel He-100 flew the first time on 22nd January 1938. One year later , the 8th prototype estabilished a new speed record (746.61 km/h). The plane appeared as a possible counterpart of the Me-109 , that was already adopted in numerous Luftwaffe units. Some instability problems delayed the developing and the testing of the project, but they completed anyway the He-100D, built in 15 exemplars. As the DB-601 engines were already given to Bf-109 s production, the He-100 wasn t adopted by the Luftwaffe and the Heinkel was authorized to offer the model at foreign countries. In fact in 1939 soviet and japanese experts , in visit at Marienehe, demonstrated great interest for the plane. Three He-100D were given to Japan , and six developing exemplars were sold to URSS. The collaboration between the two countries stopped there. The japanese production project was never attemped. |
