Biplane with wooden wings and metallic tubes fuselage, the Focke Wulf FW44 is remembered as an excellent aerobatic plane, built by the factory in the largest number after the FW-190. Characterised in the initial developments by serious manouverability problems, the project , with Siemens Sh.14A engine , was reviewed by Kurt Tank and after an intense developing work it demonstrated to be optimal. Realized in many variants, with different engines (135CV - 160CV), the Stieglitz was also built on license by Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Bulgary and Sweden, and was largely employed as a trainer by Luftwaffe until the end of the war. The FW44 was also exportated in Bolivia, Chile, China, Chekoslovakia, Finland, Rumania, Switzerland and Turkey. |
