Monoplane fighter (BF109 E3 ) |
It ´s a continue discussion about the superiority of this plane on the Spitfire or not, but the Emil (as the pilots called this model of the plane) was probably one of the best fighters of his time. Exibited at the Olympics games of Berlin, collaudated in Spain by Condor Legion, this plane constituted the most aggressive force of the Luftwaffe during the Blitzkrieg and the Battle of Britain. On this plane fought fighter aces as Galland and Moelders and rapidly become the most famous german plane. The Bf-109 E was only one model of the production of this plane: the prototype BF109 V1 flew in May 1935 and it has a Rolls Royce Kestrel engine (695 CV). The first-series model was the BF109 B-1 with a Junkers Jumo 210Da engine (720 CV) and it was employed in combat in Spain. Then it was created the BF109 C-1, with Jumo 210 Ga engine and 2 MG 17 machineguns on the wings. Followed the BF109 D-1 (Jumo 210 Da , 4 machineguns), BF109 E-1 (when it was for the first time employed the direct-fuel-iniectjon and the MG FF cannons), BF109 F-1 (1 MG FF cannon in the engine and 2 MG 17 , DB601 engine), BF 109 G-1 (MG 151 20 mm cannon, 2 MG 17, DB 605A-1 engine, pressurized cockpit), BF109 K-4 (DB 605D, MK 103 30 mm cannon). Totally the Bf-109 occupied 2/3 of entire german fighter production. |
