Messerschmitt ME110
Plane type & model Multi-role fighter (BF110G-4a-R3) After a specify of the Luftwaffe about an heavy fighter with secondary attack capabilities, the Messerschmitt resphonded with a low-winged plane with retractile landing gear. The pre-series planes ,denominated Bf-110 A0 had Jumo 210 engines , powerless for the plane and it was only with the model Bf-110C with the definitive DB-601 engines that the plane entered in production in 1939. During the Polish campaign the 110 demonstrated to be a good fighter; but in 1940, with the Battle of Britain, the Bf-110 showed its lack of performances agains the modern enemy fighters, as the poor manouverability and acceleration greatly influenced the outcome of the aerial fightings. Given to other roles, in 1941 it was utilized in night-interception roles, the perfect role for the plane. With the developing of the onboard Liechtenstein radar, from 1942 the planes operated with major proficency until the utlizing of countermeausers by the RAF: the chaffs (also denominated Windows) were able to disrupt the radar īs potential. From the second half of 1944 the fighter commenced to decline , but remained in production until March 1945. Even today itīs considered as one as the best bimotors of the WW2.
