Monoplane fighter (G.50) |
Ideated in 1935 by Giuseppe Gabrielli engineer, the G.50 was a monoplane aerodynamically modern, but with bad flying characteristics and of performances light superior from the CR-42. The prototypes and the 45 pre-series exemplars had a closed cockpit, hated by pilots, so in the series production the cockpit was re-projected as the flaps and the tail. 12 exemplars of the plane were employed in Spain Civil war and in June 1940 only 95 exemplars were on service. During the war the G.50 was utilized on the English Channel, with the Corpo Aereo Italiano, on the Mediterranean sea and over the North-African front were it was utilized as a fighter bomber by the 50° Stormo. The Finnish aeronautic utilized them succesfully against URSS until 1944. |
