Lockheed Ventura /Harpoon
Plane type & model Recon bomber (PV-1 Ventura) Developed on a RAF request as a substitute of the Hudson , the Ventura was derivated from a civil model of the Lockheed, the Model 18 Lodestar . In 1940 the RAF ordered 675 exemplars of the new plane (Lockheed 37), that was at once passed to Coastal Command due to the poor day-bombing capabilities. Apart from the Commonwealth countries it was also utilized by USAAF and US Navy ( with the respective denominations of B-34 and PV-1 ). In June 1943 it was ordered a better version of the PV-1 , the PV-2 Harpoon , with more range, radar, and the possibility of carrying also torpedoes and depth charges. After the war these planes were given to many allied air forces.
