Collaudated in active duty during the Spanish civil war , the He 111 was the best heavy bomber of the Luftwaffe during the first half of the war. The standard version of the period of war was the He 111H, that arrived to equip 13 Geschwader and 6 other Gruppen. Employed also for the search and the targetting of targets with special radio-based signals and for anti-naval attacks, the He 111 operated on all fronts, from the Artic to the africaan desert, and from Atlantic sea to Iraq. With a solid low-winged monoplane structure, the He 111 delivered torpedoes, missles Hs 293 and V-1 flying bombs ; when the Germany abandoned strategic bombings they were employed as transports. The He 111Z 5 engines plane was a special variation designated to transport glirders, obtained by the union of 2 He 111H. |
