Monoplane jet-fighter (He 162A-2) |
The specifies for a small and cheap jet fighter to hit the Allied bombers were emitted on 8 September 1944 and after a week it were chosen 2 projects, where the winner was the Heinkel P.1073 (even if never arrived an official comunicate about that choice). The initial production had to arrive to 1000 planes, to arrive in May 1945 to 2000 planes / month, an impossible amuont, also because there weren´t enough pilots for such a large number of planes. Only 90 days were enough to made the first prototype capable of flying, even if an exemplar got lost in an accident on 10 December 1944. In January 1945 some exemplars were given to evalutate to Erpobungskommando 162, at Rechlin, and in February the I.Gruppe of JG.1 began the conversion to new plane. At the end of the war, thanks to subterranean factories, there were consigned 170 exemplars, 100 were ready to be consigned and 800 were nearly to be completed |
