||
| Plane type & model | Heavy bomber (He 177A-1/R1 Greif ) | Later tentative to introduce a quadrimotor strategical bomber, the He 177 was a big plane employing 4 engines coupled a two-two, that entered in action with the operative units of the Luftwaffe during 1942. With a big deck for bombs and a very long wing, the He177A transported easily a big payoload, but suffered of problems in the engines and in the structural design. Rarely employed in effective strategic bombings it was partially employed in anti-naval attacks, even if the KG 1 sent 87 He 177 to east in order to accomply a memorable strike on Velikye Luki (1944). The operations with the He 177 were gradually removed because of the lack of fuel ; meanwhile, at the end of the war, a plane was being modified to carry the german A-Bomb |
