Monoplane night interceptor (He 219A-7/R1) |
The origins of the He-219 belongs to 1940 ,when the Heinkel decided to start privately a study about a multi-role bimotor vehicle. The project 1064 included numerous innovations, as the tricycle landing gear, the pressurized-tandem cockpit, new aerodynamics lines and new powerful engines. But the 1064 was considerated too innovative by the Luftwaffe and was abandoned. Only because the intervention of general Kammerhuber, commander of Natch-Jagders , the project was reestabilished and became the He 219. In April 1943 the first exemplars of series entered service with the NJG-1, and obtained consistent successes. The production terminated in November 1944 (294 built). The He 219 was the first plane in the world that operatively used the ejectable seats. |
