Heinkel HE277
|
| Plane type & model |
Heavy bomber-7 crew(277B-5 / R2) |
The He 277 was similar to He 177, and conserved wings , fuselage and tail of that plane, but it had 4 distinct DB 603 engines . Even if Goering had prohibited Henkel the further developing of this plane , Hitler asked a plane capable of high altitude bombing on Great Britain and ordered Henkel to continue the building of the prototypes. The prototype He 277V1 flew in late 1943 and then other 9 planes were built ( He 277V2 and 8 He 277B-5 / R2 of series). There were the proposal of more powerful models , but the entire project was abandoned in 1944 when the fighters ´production became vital to Germany. |
