| Plane type & model | Medium bomber (Ju 288 C-1) | Destinated to substitute the Ju 88, the Ju 288 was a completly new projext with stellar BMW 801MA engines ( 1194 kW / 1622 CV ) and a redesigned tail, which prototype flew in January 1941. The payload capability was lowered from 5000 Kg to 3000 Kg , mainly because of manuverability problems. The plane flew with more powerful engines and with defense weapons in radiocommanded turrets. When in 1943 the production of many german bombers ( ex the Ju 88) was interrupted, that of Ju 288 was cntinuated in a special ground attack variant, with the utilization of the single shot Gerat 104 Munchhausen 356mm cannon, but never went in production. |
