| Plane type & model | Dive bomber (JU-87 B2) | Always remebered as an essential component of Hitler s Blitzkrieg , the Ju 87 with the caractheristic W wing began its active duty in Spain before equipping the Stukaverband of the Luftwaffe, until reaching a total of 20 Gruppen for each one of the european fronts. The first versions of war time period were the Ju 87B and Ju 87R (long range model), capable of carrying a 1000 Kg bomb; these were followed by Ju 87D with Jumo 211J engine and improvements in the armor and in the weaponry. The antitank Ju 87G was equipped with two 37 mm cannons. The Stuka was a precision weapon if employed against ships, airfields and factories, but it resulted very vulnerable to enemy air interception. |
