Dive bomber (Ju 88 A4) |
Employed in many roles, the Ju 88 entered service in 1939 and remained into active duty until the end of the war. Entirely metallic monoplane it was fast, swift and loved by its crews; it was employed as a dive bomber, as a medium bomber in quote, capable of carrying a considerable weight of bombs. It partecipated to all important battles of 1939 and 1940, and it was largely used in Battle of Britain, in the Balkans, on the Mediterranean, in North Africa and on the russian front. The normal bomber was the Ju 88A (with anti-naval variants); the plane was maximum improved with the Ju88S ,that had a max velocity of 615 km/h. At the end of the war the remaining Ju 88s were employed in the lower component of the composite weapon Mistel (last photo in this page) |
