Heavy bomber (Me 264A -V3-) |
The Me 264 quadrimotor was designed in 1941 as a France-based transatlantic bomber, capable of hitting american cities on the oriental coast. The prototype flew in Deceember 1942; the series exemplars were made to carry a maximum of 3000 Kg of bombs during a 45h flight, to be accomplished with 25250 l of fuel and 6 auxiliars rockets for the take-off. When the USA entered the war, the specify for the bomber was advanced more than the capabilities of Me 264; so they were developed the 6-engines Me264B, Ju 390 and Ta 400. Only the Ju 390 accomplished a testing fly, and it arrived near the american coasts. |
