 WEBMASTER 'S TIPS AND ADVICES FROM TAGLIA

So ... you 've got a good website , but you find difficult to get visitors on it. I started my site a year ago , with absolutely no purposes in mind , and now I have a good visited aviation site that also offers free services to the visitors!
Probably it's not the best site on the World Wide Web , but I assure you that it's giving me plenty of satisfaction! BTW, this required a lot of work and it 's not so easy to make a site and get it visible on the Net . If you are a webmaster too,
I could give you some advices about what I've done to advertise and expand my site ... even I'll tell you what 's the best way of making some money with your hard work :-) . If you are interested , save this page and read it ... It won't take too long

 GETTING STARTED!

At first it could be very difficult to get visitors on your website : first of all you must ensure that you have provided all your pages with the META TAGS in the <HEAD> section ... this is very important , because they will be spidered by
the search engines when you add your URL to them , and will be the infos that describe and give a title at your entry in the search engine : here you have the most important META TAGS : 1) <META NAME="keywords" CONTENT="KEY1, KEY2, KEY3, KEYN..."> This will contain the keywords for your site ... so if you insert the keyword "WWII" , for example , anyone who searches the engine for "WWII" will display your site in the results. Try to not surpass 20 keywords ; some search engines penalize sites with too many words! 2) <META NAME="description" CONTENT="Description for your site..."> This is the description of your site that will appear under your url. Some tips : don't exceed 255 characters , some engines truncates descriptions with more than 255 chars; avoid to write all in CAPITALIZED LETTERS :-) ; try to use the same words you used in the keywords , this will improve your site 's matching rank: 3) <META NAME="robots" CONTENT="ALL"> This will command the "spiders" that indicize your website to go trought the links of your page and index also other pages of your site. If you place "NONE" in the contents , the spider will ignore deeper links: 4) <META NAME="copyright" CONTENT="Your name or organization"> This will make clear that the page was made by you in a original way :-))) 5) <TITLE> Your page 's title </TITLE> This is not really a META TAG , but it's very important ! OTHER TIPS : Try to repeat the same words that appear in your KEYWORDS , DESCRIPTION , TITLE and PAGE 'S TEXT ... this will greatly improve your site 's match with the queries of that words ; for example , if my site has the word "AVIATION" in all of these fields and in the page 's text , it will be more "related" (for the search engine logic!) than a site that contains the same word only in the TITLE. However use this tip wisely !! If you overwhelm your page with the same words (maybe written in the same background color :-)) , the spiders will penalize your site! |
 SUBMIT YOUR SITE TO SEARCH ENGINES

So you 've just added the META TAGS to your pages , but haven't got any idea about submitting your site to search engines ... well , there are several ways I'll try to explain here : 1) You can visit ALL the search engines 's homepage and search for the "ADD URL" link , to add your entry manually every time : if you want to suicide yourself you can follow this "advice" at your own risk :-)) ; 2) You can find some free services that add your site to many search engines in one time ; I've tried a lot , but the best I've seen for now it's at http://www.weballey.net/webannouncer/ : It will take you some time , but you can add your site to 70 search engines and control that the submission are accepted one by one : 3) There is another free services that add you very quickly , but you won't know if your site was eventually added .  OTHER WAYS TO ADVERTISE YOUR SITE

If you want to increase visibility of your site you would surely join a BANNER EXCHANGE PROGRAM . There are several methods of doing that ... I advice you to do them all , because they greatly help your site to gain visibility on the Web. 1) Find other sites with the same contents as yours and ask them for a banner / text link exchange . They will expose a link pointing to your site (or a banner) , in exchange you will do the same with thier site. WWW.TGPLANES.COM has it's own banner/text-link exchange program ... Just follow this link . 2) Join some ratio-based banner exchanges . You will expose banners of other sites on your pages and you will recieve credits for your banner 's exposure on other sites . The ratio rules the exposures : for example , a 1:2 banner exchange program will show your banner every time you collect 2 exposures of other's sites trought your pages. There are some sites as LINKEXCHANGE ( http://www.linkexchange.com/ ) that will advertise your site on a large target ... But if you own too an aviation site I suggest you to join AEROSEEK 'S BANNER EXCHANGE PROGRAM ( http://www.aeroseek.com/exchange/ ) , that has a cool 1:1 ratio , or try UGA AVIATION BANNER EXCHANGE PROGRAM ( http://www.ugamedia.com/exchange/ ) that has a convenable 3:2 ratio. And with these two , you will be sure that your banner will be displayed on other Aviation sites (so there will always be an interested audience seeing your banner). |
